Another winter snow event in Southern Oregon has bit the dust — or mud, as the case may be.
The John Day Citizen's Cross Country Ski Race planned for Sunday at Diamond Lake was cancelled Friday as an on-going heavy rains deteriorated the race course, the latest victim of poor snow levels in the Cascade Mountains.
The race is hosted annually by the Diamond Lake Resort at the South Cascades lake.
The race will not be rescheduled, according to race director Reider Peterson.
Diamond Lake is exactly a mile above sea level and had 10 inches of snow this afternoon, the Natural Resources Conservation Service snow monitors reported.
Sled-dog races twice scheduled to be run outside Chemult were cancelled and not rescheduled for later this winter.
