Foreclosures up again in Jackson County, statewide

 Posted: 2:10 PM February 14, 2014

Eugene-based Gorilla Capital said foreclosures filed in 20 Oregon counties it monitors rose noticeably in January.

Gorilla Capital said there were 371 filings in the 20 counties, up from 277 in December 2013. During the last five months of 2013, foreclosure filings had been in a decline.

"While the mediation process does not appear to be reducing the number of foreclosures, it has created a void of foreclosure actions filed with the courts over the last six months," John Helmick, CEO of Gorilla Capital, said in a statement.

Gorilla reported 26 judicial foreclosures in Jackson County and five notice of sales during the period. In December, there were 11 judicial foreclosures and nine notice of sales.

Helmick predicted more foreclosures during February and March, but not to the level seen between 2008 and 2010.

Statewide, there were 284 court foreclosures filed in January compared to 165 in December. Notice of sales filings dropped to 87 in January, compared to 112 in December.
