  • Ashland city workers will get a lesson in being ready for a disaster this week.
Ashland Fire & Rescue and the Ashland Community Emergency Response Team will train key city employees on evacuation procedures, sheltering, first aid, transport, search and rescue, fire safety, triage, blood borne pathogens and hands-only CPR. The training is set from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Ashland Fire & Rescue, Station No. 1, 455 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland.
At the training, workers will learn CPR and build preparedness kits to take back to their work sites. Each trainee will get a T-shirt to identify them as a leader prepared to help colleagues in an emergency.
Separately, the city and its volunteers plan an exercise from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Feb. 12, to practice activating an emergency operations center in a pandemic. They will gather in the Ashland City Council Chambers, which would serve as the operations center in an actual emergency, to run through a scenario involving a disease outbreak.
