  • Police are still on the hunt for a man who allegedly robbed an Ashland gas station over the weekend and threatened the clerk with a gun.
Ashland police say the incident happened at 8:25 p.m. Saturday at the Astro Gas Station, 449 E. Main St. A Hispanic male in his late 30s to early 40s walked into the station.
"When he walked in, he said 'I'm here to get some cigarettes, and oh, by the way, I'm here to rob the place also,'" said Ashland police Deputy Chief Corey Falls. "That was the extent of it."
Police said the man then pulled up his shirt to reveal what looked like a semiautomatic pistol tucked into his waistband and tapped it. The clerk complied with the suspect's demands and gave him cash. Authorities declined to disclose the amount stolen. The man then fled on foot toward nearby Rogue Federal Credit Union before he disappeared. No one was hurt in the robbery.
Officers from several agencies responded to the scene, including a K-9 unit from Medford police. Security cameras captured the man's face and police have released the photograph in hopes someone will recognize the suspect.
The man had a mustache with a small beard or goatee. He also wore a black beanie-style hat, a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
Anyone with information on the case should contact Ashland police at 541-482-5211. They can also call the department's anonymous tip line at 541-552-2333.
