For the second time this season, Southern Oregon University guard Kristen Schoenherr was named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Red Lion Player of the Week on Monday.
Most of the stat lines from Schoenherr's sophomore season are not easily distinguishable — the 5-foot-9 left-hander has scored in double figures 20 straight games — but she turned in her most eye-grabbing performance Saturday against 14th-ranked Eastern Oregon, totaling a career-high 32 points on 10-for-15 shooting with 10 rebounds, seven assists and two steals.
A night earlier, in SOU's 75-73 victory against College of Idaho, she went 7-for-14 on her way to 20 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals. She was also 5-for-6 from the free-throw line, making her 16 of 19 on the weekend.
Schoenherr has made at least four field goals with a shooting percentage over 50 in eight straight games. During that stretch, she's converted 57 of 93 attempts.
In conference play, she ranks third in scoring (16.7 points), third in field-goal percentage (55.6), fourth in steals (2.0), seventh in assists (4.1), 11th in free-throw percentage (81.7) and 18th in rebounding (5.1).
Schoenherr and the Raiders (17-6 overall, 6-5 CCC) will be on the road this weekend, playing at Corban on Friday and Northwest Christian on Saturday.
Thirteen Southern Oregon University football players were named to the 2013 Frontier Academic All-Conference team, which was released Monday.
Daniel Abernethy, Heston Altenbach, Daniel Breaux, Michael Bryant, Austin Dodge, Drew Gibson, Steven Josephson, Trevor Kuyper, Josh Leff, Zach Marshall, Gannon Schroder, Austin Smith and Teran Togia made the squad.
The qualifying student-athletes needed to be at least sophomores in standing, maintain grade-point averages at 3.0 or better and be enrolled at their respective schools the last two semesters.
Carroll College led all schools with 53 selections.
