    Ashland makes nine 3s, sinks Vikings

    Malcolm, Harfst combine for 38 points in triumph

  • KLAMATH FALLS — Ashland's long-distance shooting and a combined 38 points from Collin Malcolm and Mitchell Harfst enabled the Grizzlies to avenge an earlier defeat to Mazama, 67-51.
    Ashland (6-8) made nine 3-pointers, including four by Malcolm. The junior forward scored 22 points and added seven rebounds.
    Harfst, a senior forward, added 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds as the Grizzlies made up for a 67-63 loss to the Vikings (6-10) in late December.
    Senior guard Jackson Byers scored nine points.
    Ashland jumped out to a 10-point first-quarter lead and kept control throughout.
    Senior guard Gabe Stanley had seven points and seven rebounds for the Grizzlies, and sophomore point guard Ethan Jones led the team with seven assists to go with five points.

    At Klamath Falls, Mazama scored 27 second-quarter points and rolled to a 71-38 nonconference win over Ashland.
    Junior guard Georgia Williams scored 15 points to pace Ashland (6-9).
    Mazama (10-3) used a big edge in rebounding (53-27) and a 24-point performance from senior Caileigh Smith to cruise to the win.
    Ashland, which trailed 43-17 at intermission, was outscored by only seven points in the second half.
