Former Oregon poet laureate Lawson Inada, along with local poets Jonah Bornstein, Amy MacLennan, Joan Peterson, Paul Suter and Priscilla Hunter, will read poetry by William Stafford at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, in Room 305 of the Hannon Library on the Southern Oregon University Campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd. Admission is free. Call 541-552-6835 for details. Stafford was named consultant in poetry to the Library of Congress in 1970, a position that is now known as poet laureate, and, in 1975, poet laureate of Oregon. The readings are in celebration of his 100th birthday. Audience members also may read their favorite Stafford poems. The program will conclude with a short excerpt from the documentary, “What the River Says,” of Stafford reading and discussing one of his poems.
