Icy conditions cause three crashes near Oregon-California border

 Posted: 8:00 AM January 13, 2014

Ice on Interstate 5 seems to be taking its toll near the Oregon-California border this morning.

The Oregon Department of Transportation reported three vehicle crashes within 15-minute near milepost 1 south of Ashland. The first crash, involving a commercial truck, happened at about 7 a.m. The truck was heading southbound when it slid off the road and crashed. The other two crashes involved passenger vehicles heading northbound that also hit icy patches and crashed.

"They're all right around the same time. It may be a little icy right there," said Gary Leaming, ODOT spokesman. "It doesn't sound like there are any injuries at this point."

All vehicles are off the road, meaning there should be little to no delays for drivers in the area. ODOT's website www.tripcheck.com is reporting spots of ice in the area. Officials are urging motorists to slow down. We'll have more information as it becomes available.
