 Posted: 12:50 PM January 09, 2014

The Pacific Power Foundation has awarded two grants totaling $6,500 to Britt Festivals and the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon for music education programs.

Britt Festivals got $5,000 for year-round education outreach programs. The festivals' President and CEO Donna Briggs said in a prepared statement that the organization is committed to helping students explore music and to providing teachers with tools to incorporate arts in the classroom.

The Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon got $1,500 to supplement the organization's music training and performance opportunities for young musicians from throughout the region. Sharon Wilson, executive director of the organization, said the money will provide tuition assistance and lesson scholarships for YSSO members, giving them access to more training by professional musicians.
