  • The effects of oil in California on Southern Oregon railroads will be the topic in the "Windows in Time" history talk from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the Ashland library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd.
    Railroad historian Larry Mullaly will present "The Great Transformation: How Bakersfield Oil Changed Southern Oregon Railroading." He will address how the shift from wood to oil in fueling locomotives changed the Southern Pacific Oregon lines.
    A Central Point resident, Mullaly has written articles that have appeared in "Southern Pacific Historical and Technical Society" magazine and other publications. He also co-authored the book "The Southern Pacific in Los Angeles" with Bruce Petty.
    The presentation will be repeated at noon Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Medford library, 205 S. Central Ave.
