Kieran Devine at the Wild goose

 Posted: 2:00 AM January 02, 2014

Singer and songwriter Kieran Devine is putting the finishing touches on a handful of new songs that he hopes to record sometime in the new year.

Devine and flutist and percussionist Mike Whipple will try out some of the new material at 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at the Wild Goose Cafe and Bar, 2365 Ashland St., Ashland. Two of these new songs are "I Come From," based on a poem written by one of Devine's friends the day before he died, and "Caveman," inspired by a line in a Jack Nicholson movie.

The duo also will perform songs from Devine's 2011 debut, "Chasing the Gray," as well as obscure songs by artists such as George Jones, Ray LaMontagne and others. The show is free. Call 541-488-4103.
