Avalon Bar & Grill will usher in the new year with an evening of early blues and soul.

Award-winning Portland blues artist Karen Lovely will present Prohibition-era and contemporary blues, as well as gypsy jazz, funk and swing, at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the bar, 105 W. Valley View Road, Talent. Lovely will be accompanied by guitarist Robbie Laws, saxophonist Michael Vannice, pianist David Scoggins, drummer Kevin McKern, bassist Bruce McKern, and trombonist Gary Nelson.

Guests are invited to come dressed in 1920s attire. Tickets cost $30 in advance, $40 at the door and include party favors, an amuse-bouche and a glass of champagne at midnight. Call 541-535-6677.

Early next year, Lovely will embark on national and international tours, as well as release her third studio album, "10 Miles of Bad Road."
