Ol' Mount'n Due

 Posted: 2:00 AM December 19, 2013

Later this month, Ol' Mount'n Due releases its debut album, featuring a dozen dark songs about booze. The trio of punk rockers — Larry Grose on banjo, Steve Howell on upright bass and Jon Miner on acoustic guitar — recorded the album, titled "Rollin' On In," in Chris Slocum's west Medford studio.

Grose says the album is a good representation of what the band's been playing live: original, old-timey roots music with raspy, Tom Waits-style vocals.

This week, the band presents free shows, featuring several new songs, such as "Edward" and "Wretchedness," at 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at Paddy Brannan's Irish Pub, 23 S. Second St., Ashland, and 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at The Gypsy, 205 W. Eighth St., Medford. Call 541-488-7973 or 541-770-1212.
