  • YREKA — Hanna Greenberg hit a tie-breaking free throw with 1.4 seconds left as the Ashland girls basketball team stormed back from a 22-point halftime deficit to stun Yreka 56-55 in the first round of the Yreka Invitational on Thursday.
    Greenberg, who scored nine points, pulled down a rebound as the clock wound down and the score tied and was fouled just before the buzzer sounded. She hit the first shot, capping the Grizzlies' rally from a 45-23 halftime deficit in their season opener.
    "All heart," said Ashley Hafner, who picked up her first win as Ashland's new head coach. "We just worked our buns off and executed on defense."
    Junior guard Georgia Williams paced the Grizzlies with 21 points, Leilani Sukles added 10 and Michaela Dunn nine.
    Ashland, which plays its second game of the tournament tonight, overcame major foul trouble after being called for 29 personal fouls in the first half.

    At Yreka, Ashland won its season opener over Yreka 81-78 on Thursday in the first round of the Yreka Invitational.
