  • The call for a slight chance of snow in the Rogue Valley didn't happen today, but the National Weather Service says some of the white stuff could be here on Friday.
A storm system, which originated off the coast of Alaska and is moving into the area, will already have one of the key ingredients for snow waiting for it: freezing temperatures at just 1,000 feet above the valley floor.
"We already have a cold air mass over us, and we have another storm that's coming down from the north," said meteorologist Ken Sargeant. "It won't really have to cool down anymore."
Add to that some moisture that the storm system will pick up as it passes over water onto land, and weather officials say there is some "moderate" confidence flakes will fall. An estimate on how much is not yet known, but meteorologists say it could be from anywhere from a dusting up to one or two inches.
"It's fairly weak because it's coming from so far north," Sargeant said.
