A silver maple located in the center of Southern Oregon University's new North Campus Village will be lighted for the holidays.
The tree, which is a finalist in this year's City of Ashland Tree of the Year competition, stands prominently in the courtyard between the Shasta and McLoughlin residence halls.
It was protected during construction of the new residence halls. Now the SOU Landscape Services Department has bedecked it in 3,500 red LED lights to celebrate the season, the city's Festival of Light and to show support for the SOU Raiders.
The lights all come on at dusk this evening and the public is invited to see it.
