October 27, 1929 ~ November 15, 2013

Marianne Perl Zundel, 84, passed away November 15, 2013 in Central Point, Ore. She was born in Medford, Ore. two days before the stock market crash on Black Tuesday. At her birth, as the story goes, the doctor was in a big hurry because of the economic crisis. She was the first child of Dorothy Irene Brown and William Frank Perl. A striking beauty and one-time rodeo queen, she lived her childhood in the original Perl Funeral Home mansion on Oakdale Avenue in Medford. Her grandfather, John A. Perl, started the family business. Marianne graduated in the Class of 1948 from Medford High School. She attended the University of Oregon and pledged Alpha Chi Omega. She married Robert Gerald Zundel November 11, 1951.

She lived a quiet life, raising two children, attending the Presbyterian Church, and enjoying her Pomeranians. In the words of her favorite author, Laura Ingalls Wilder, I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all.

She is survived by her daughter, Robin Stroh of Medford, Ore.; son, Jeff (Michelle) Zundel of Ashland, Ore.; and grandchildren, Eric and Adam Stroh and Maya and Skylar Zundel. She is also survived by her brother, William (Greta) Perl of Lakeside, Ore. Her husband, Robert Gerald Zundel, preceded her in death.

The family expresses gratitude to Lillian and Steve Sheppard at Sheppard Home who provided loving care for her during the last five years. Perl Funeral Home will take care of all arrangements. Friends and family are invited to a service at 12:00 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2013 in the Chapel at Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd. Medford, OR.
