Ashland High senior midfielder Nick Chouard was voted the Southern Oregon Hybrid Class 5A boys soccer Player of the Year and was one of six Grizzlies to be named first-team all stars, as the SOH all-conference team was announced recently.

Eagle Point had five first-team all-stars.

Ashland High head coach Abdiaziz Guled and Eagle Point head coach Phil Ortega select the all stars in the two-team league. Besides the first-team picks, Ashland had three honorable mentions and Eagle Point two.

"I think what's good about (Chouard) is his leadership," Guled said of Chouard, who led the Grizzlies with nine goals and eight assists. "He was always out there just picking up everybody else, in practice and in games, showing his leadership in a way that's really above and beyond what you ask of a captain."

Besides Chouard, Ashland's first-team selections were senior fullback Gabe Young (six goals), senior forward Andres Garcia (four goals), junior midfielder Cole Coster, junior fullback David Lehrburger and sophomore forward Stenley Graham.

Eagle Point's first-team all-star selections were senior forward Jose Lopez-Ramirez, sophomore midfielder Sebastian Tovar, junior fullback Emir Lemus, sophomore midfielder Kevin Vandyke and senior fullback Eddy Perez Rivera.

Ashland's honorable mentions were senior fullback Kevin Weatherby, junior keeper Tejas Leier Heyden and junior fullback Gabe Lehrburger.

The Grizzlies (8-6-1) swept Eagle Point in the SOH season series to claim the league title then beat Churchill in a play-in game before losing at Cleveland in the first round of the 5A state tournament.
