SOU's enrollment declines by 5.3 percent

Enrollment at Southern Oregon University dropped by 341 students to a total of 6,140 this fall compared to 2012, the biggest percentage decline in the university system.

The Oregon University System released enrollment figures for Oregon's five universities today, with most showing increases in students.

Overall enrollment for all universities increased by 1,681 students this fall, pushing the total to 103,074.

Three universities — SOU, the University of Oregon and Eastern Oregon University — showed declines.

SOU showed the greatest decline at 5.3 percent, followed by EOU at 1.2 percent.

Five universities, Oregon Institute of Technology, Oregon State University Corvallis campus, Oregon State University Cascades campus, Portland State University and Western Oregon University, showed gains.

OSU in Bend showed the greatest increase at 16.9 percent, followed by OIT at 10.3 percent.
