Halloween happenings

There will be plenty of ghoulish fun in Ashland for adults and children alike

It's a spook-tacular time of the year in Southern Oregon, so head out in all your ghoulish glory to these fine Halloween events.

Children's Halloween celebration and Parade

2:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. Downtown Ashland. Free.

Costume-clad children and adults interested in walking in the annual parade can line up on Third Street between East Main Street and Lithia Way, and adults without children can line up on Siskiyou Boulevard in front of the library. The parade begins at 3:30 p.m. and ends on the Ashland Plaza. From 3:45 to 4:30 p.m., there will be trick-or-treating at various businesses along East Main Street, as well as live music by the Ashland Middle School Jazz Band, the Ashland High School Band and Samba Like It Hot. Immediately after the parade, Judith Pavlik will be taking photographs of children in their Halloween costumes at Ashland Art Center, 357 E. Main St. Bring a canned food item to donate to the Ashland Emergency Food Bank. Other events include a Halloween story time from 2:30 to 3 p.m. at the Ashland library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd.; a story time from 3:45 to 5 p.m. at Paddington Station, 125 E. Main St.; an open house for kids from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Tree House Books, 15 N. Main St.; a Mad Science Show and activities, hosted by ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum, between 3:45 and 4:30 p.m. outdoors on the corner of Oak Street and East Main Street.

Spookadelic Halloween Funktacular

7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St. $25 in advance, $30 at the door., Music Coop in Ashland or Magic Man in Medford and Grants Pass.

The Pimps of Joytime, a funk band from Brooklyn, N.Y., along with DJ SaQi and DJ AfroQBen, will present dance music. There also will be live performances by Dancing People Company's Will Cooper, aka Dr. Funkenstein, and dancers from Intention Dance Coop, PDF Dancers and Le Cirque Centre's adult dance company, Levity. Amae Love will emcee the party. Costumes are strongly encouraged.
