  • Age is irrelevant when it comes to a pumpkin patch.
It doesn't matter whether you're 6 or 60, as soon as you bound through a patch of uncut pumpkins, scanning the ground like a hawk for the perfect carving specimen, you're a kid at heart.
A popular pumpkin patch in the Rogue Valley is Pheasant Fields Farm in Phoenix.
The vast fields seem to grow every year, providing ample pumpkins to choose from as you gambol among the gourds in the crisp fall air. The managers of Pheasant Fields have added attractions for Halloween enthusiasts of all ages, including a "little pig race;" Grandma's Kitchen, which features some delicious farm food; an even larger corn maze than last year; and photo opportunities to capture the day for posterity.
There are also the old favorites: a petting zoo, many arts and crafts stands, pony rides, hay rides and the ever-famous pumpkin shooting gallery.
"I love Pheasant Fields Farms," says Kelsey Gida, a junior at Ashland High School. "I've been going to that same exact place since I was like 2, and I love how it hasn't changed its classic elements and how it's so beautifully simple, even with new additions. Plus, the scenery is gorgeous, and whenever I go, I feel like a little kid again. It reminds me of my childhood."
She recently visited with a gaggle of other high school students, who, despite their age, happily played on the pile of hay known as "Lookout Hill" along with the third-graders.
Pheasant Fields Farm is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through October at 1865 Camp Baker Road, Phoenix. Daytime phone is 541-535-3873.
Today, the farm will feature the music of Montana Soul from noon to 3 p.m.
