Hamfist takes songs you wouldn't expect a string band to do and does them, says accordion player Stephany "Bootsy" Smith-Pearson.
The seven-piece, acoustic string band manages to put a cowboy or bluegrass spin on just about everything it plays, including songs by Cheap Trick, Madonna, Lionel Richie, Billy Idol and Groucho Marx.
The band — Ezra "Ez" Severin on ukulele and harmonica, Jesse "The Kid" Baldwin on banjo and Dobro, Joe "G Slim" Porto on upright bass, James "Cletus T. Cornhauler" Dean on mandolin, Sequoia Pearson on guitar, Jon "Johnny B" Bates on guitar and Smith-Pearson — will play at 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Caldera Tap House, 31 Water St., Ashland. The cover is $3. Call 541-482-7468. Look for the band's Christmas album later this year.
