Yvonne Vonnie Hauser Swing, 88, departed this life on October 2, 2013, of natural causes at Emerald Valley Assisted Living in Eugene, Ore. She was born May 20, 1925 in New York City to Dr. Louis A. and Yvonne Hauser, and attended City and Country School, Lincoln School, and Barnard College.
Vonnie retired from an early career as a designer and creator of custom jewelry to raise a large family; she later became an accomplished calligrapher; worked as a Stage/Production Manager at Oregon Repertory Theatre (1978-1983) and volunteered at White Bird Clinic in Eugene; spent two years in London, England as an Administrative Assistant of the American Reference Center for the British Performing Arts (1984-1986); volunteered and worked for many years at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Ore.; and volunteered in many community organizations including serving on the boards of the Britt Music Festival and the Rogue Valley Symphony.
Vonnie was widely traveled and her love of traveling was exceeded only by her passion for the arts, and especially theatre. Always the picture of style and grace, everyone who knew her will remember seeing her striding about town in her famous yellow raincoat and dashing black hat.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers. She is survived by her eight children, Yvonne Phillis (Mike), Mark Swing, Rebecca Swing (Charly), Liza Larkin (Matt), Sally Swing, Kate Coughlin (Mike), Joan Hayter (Tim), and Peter Swing; as well as 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
