Michael P. Verkest went to be with the Lord after a long battle with kidney disease. He passed away in his sleep at his home in Virginia Beach, Va. He was surrounded by the love of his family, including his wife, Pam, who was by his side.
He moved his family to Southern Oregon in 1980, from San Diego, Calif., where his served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Welch and USS Albert David. He served two tours in Vietnam. Michael worked a few jobs here and there, but settled in with long career at Willamette Egg Farms in Eagle Point, Ore., as a delivery driver.
Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Ida, in 2008. In 2010, he was reunited with his current wife, Pam, and they were married August 6, 2010.
Michael is survived by wife, Pamela Verkest and family, of Virginia Beach, Va.; sons, Mike Verkest and family, of Sherwood, Ore., and Don Castillo, of Central Point, Ore; daughters, Candy Rahenkamp and family, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Sharon Nunez and family, of Irvine, Calif. He was also survived by 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Don, Bill and Art Verkest; and sisters, Mary Kay Treblehorn and Judy Haskell.
