Frost and freezing weather predicted

 Posted: 3:30 PM October 03, 2013

Brrrrr. The National Weather Service has issued a trio of chilly warnings for Friday and Saturday in the Rogue Valley, with the potential for temperatures to plunge into the low 30s during the early-morning hours.

Meteorologists are calling for a freeze warning from 2 to 8 a.m. Friday, meaning sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely, according to an advisory issued by the weather service. Additionally, weather officials are calling for a frost advisory from 2 to 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday, meaning sensitive outdoor plants could die if left uncovered. A freeze watch is also in effect late Friday night into Saturday morning, meaning sub-freezing temperatures that can kill crops and other sensitive vegetation are possible.

Low temperatures Friday morning will be in the lower to middle 30s in the Rogue, Applegate, Illinois, Scott and Shasta valleys. Pockets of below freezing temperatures are also likely, especially along the valley edges and areas where cold air flows down from the surrounding hills.

A strong, shallow temperature inversion is inbound for Friday, with another one likely for Saturday.
