A man died at an area hospital after being struck by a commercial truck on Interstate 5 Monday night, Oregon State Police said.
Police reported the man, 30-year-old Omer Zvi Aaronson, was struck by a northbound truck near milepost 24 just after 9 p.m. A preliminary investigation by OSP shows Aaronson ran into the middle of the freeway. The truck's driver, 56-year-old Chic Lyle Erickson, attempted to swerve and miss Aaronson, but sideswiped him with the truck's right front fender.
OSP and emergency crews responded to the area. Aaronson was transported to Providence Medford Medical Center where he died about an hour later.
No criminal charges were filed against Erickson. Traffic crash specialists will reconstruct the scene today for further analysis.
