Cpl. Nicholas 'Nick' James Sell
December 19, 1991 ~ September 16, 2013
Cpl. Nicholas Nick James Sell, 21, of Eagle Point, Ore. was killed in a training exercise with the U.S. Marine Corps at Twentynine Palms Marine Base on September 16, 2013.
Nick was born in Medford, Ore. December 19, 1991 to Randy and Kathy Sell. His bright personality and love of life was carried with him in everything he did, whether it was with family, in the outdoors, or hanging out with friends. He was a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout. In 2009, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Nick graduated from Eagle Point High School in 2010. He was always quick to lend a helping hand and was dedicated to his family, community, and country. He proudly enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps in 2010 to serve his country. Nick was a member of the 3rd Assault Amphibious Battalion stationed at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, Calif. He served a tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2012. His awards included the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
Nick was a loving son, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. He enjoyed hunting with his brothers, hiking and backpacking with scouts and mostly his father, (or anything that involved running around in the woods), and had a passion for firearms. Snowboarding consumed his winters, and summer favorites were Sunday beach days with his family in California. Working at Camp McLoughlin for 10 summers filled many memories. He had an affinity for Subway and jackalopes. His quick wit was unparalleled; he was happiest when he was with family and friends, or helping those in need.
Nick is survived by his parents, Randy and Kathy of Eagle Point, Ore.; brother Beau (Nicole) of Troy, Mont.; brother Jeff (Megan) of Eagle Point, Ore.; nephew, Keaton; niece, Ellison; grandparents , Jeff and Carol Sell of Carlsbad, Calif. and Cynthia Nelson of Grass Valley, Calif.; Gene and Frances Adams of Prospect, Ore.; great-grandmothers, Mabel Rigel of Rogue River, Ore. and Nellie Thatcher of Emmett, Idaho; and a very large extended family (hundreds of great-aunts, great-uncles, aunts, uncles, and cousins) and a multitude of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Trail Christian Fellowship, 18881 Hwy 62, Eagle Point, OR with a potluck reception to follow at Butte Creek Mill, Eagle Point.
