Things are moving along quickly for Portland's Roseland Hunters. This year, the band, which formed late in 2012, has played the Waterfront Blues Festival and the Cathedral Park Jazz Festival, hit every major street fair in Portland, got a residency at The Goodfoot club in Southeast Portland and received airplay on several regional stations.
"And all that's without a released recording," says guitarist, vocalist and frontman Michael Quinby. "Things are just blowing up."
The Roseland Hunters also will be the featured artist on McMenamins' Great Northwest Music Tour in December and play the Edgefield amphitheater in Portland on New Year's Eve.
The band, which features heavy hitters such as Quinby, bassist Damian Erskine, drummer Reinhardt Melz, percussionist Brian Foxworth and keyboardist Chris Philips, is wrapping up its self-titled debut, slated for release in November. The recording was split between studios in Portland and New Orleans and features three of the four members of Dumpstaphunk.
The Roseland Hunters will present its New Orleans funk at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Alex's Plaza Restaurant, 35 N. Main St., Ashland.
"If you put Stevie Ray Vaughan in The Meters, you'd have the Roseland Hunters," Quinby says.
The cover to the show is $5. Call 541-482-8818 or see the band's website, www.roselandhunters.com.
