Klamath County official eyes Walden's House seat

 Posted: 3:35 PM September 17, 2013

Oregon Congressman Greg Walden may draw a challenger in next May's Republican primary.

Klamath County Commissioner Dennis Linthicum said he is exploring whether to run for Oregon's Second District U.S. House of Representatives seat.

The district includes Eastern, Central and parts of Southern Oregon. Walden, of Hood River, is the only Republican in Oregon's federal delegation.

"After talking to the people of Klamath County and surrounding areas, I'm convinced that those in the Second District of Oregon are looking for leadership and strong, constitutionally conservative values," Linthicum said. "Our economy is struggling and, at the county level, I see every day how individuals, families and businesses are impacted by bad policies and tone-deaf regulation."

He added that he thought he could represent the district in a more "substantial" way at the federal level.
