Oregon Department of Forestry crews are hunting for a suspected lightning-sparked fire that sent smoke wafting up on Chinquapin Mountain Road southwest of Howard Prairie.
Smoke was first reported at 6:48 a.m. ODF spokesman Brian Ballou said the amount of smoke looks minimal and said crews should be able to find the origin soon.
"We've got some pretty good ideas," Ballou said.
Several lightning strikes were reported in the area overnight into this morning, he added, including a few just south of Ashland on national forestlands.
