Southern Oregon University's women's soccer coach has been put on administrative leave, a state official said, but the school won't say why.
Head coach Jon Clement, who was hired in 2006, is under investigation by the university and did not travel Tuesday with the team on its two-game Southern California road trip, said Di Saunders, spokeswoman for the Oregon University System.
SOU Athletic Director Matt Sayre did not return phone messages left today seeking comment. Saunders contacted the paper after an SOU official asked her to, she said.
Clement is "on administrative leave and the process is under way to review the issue," Saunders said. "They'll come to a resolution on the matter. ... Because this is a personnel issue there isn't much I can say."
This is the second time Clement has been investigated by the university.
In 2007, a series of complaints from players alleged Clement exuded a pattern of favoritism and poor communication that led to a division on the team, and two players said Clement arranged private social meetings that made them feel uncomfortable.
Ultimately, SOU opted to keep Clement onboard without commenting on his alleged poor conduct.
