Investment group buys local newspapers

 Posted: 2:05 PM September 03, 2013

Fortress Investment Group LLC has acquired Dow Jones Local Media Group, which publishes the Mail Tribune, Daily Tidings and Nickel along with six other newspaper operations.

The former Dow Jones entity will be managed by GateHouse Media, one of the largest publishers of locally based print and online media in the United States, with a portfolio of products that includes over 400 community publications and approximately 350 related websites.

Members of the newspapers' staffs were informed by Publisher Grady Singletary this afternoon. No Southern Oregon Media Group staffing changes were announced.

The sale price wasn't disclosed.

NewsCorp acquired the Mail Tribune in 2007 when the global media company acquired Dow Jones Corp. and the Wall Street Journal.
