Supporters of La Clinica health centers will gather at Grizzly Peak Winery from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, for the fifth-annual Raise Your Heart Health dinner. There will be a gourmet meal, wines and a dessert auction held in the vineyard setting with views of Mount Ashland and Grizzly Peak.
Tickets are $100. For more information, call 541-512-3114 or go to www.laclinicahealth.org/raiseyourheart.
This is one of dozens of fundraising events that are being held this year at the winery, 1600 E. Nevada St., Ashland (grizzlypeakwinery.com).
Owners Al and Virginia Silbowitz and their daughter Naomi Fuerte have been allowing nonprofits to hold events on their 40 acres almost since they planted their first grapevines after moving here in 1998.
Last week, the Jackson County Fuel Committee hosted an evening of folk music here to help people with fuel expenses.
Al Silbowitz says his family is "committed to sharing" their property with others.
"Wine itself is an ancient blessing, tied to joy and to communion," he says, "and we want Grizzly Peak Winery to embody that."
Silbowitz says that having weddings and other ceremonies here is a privilege, as are fundraising events for the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon, Community Health Center, Ashland Supportive Housing, Heart and Hope Musical Ministries, Havurah Shir Hadash, Ashland Contemporary Theatre and other groups.
And, he adds, the La Clinica fundraiser is a way to celebrate doctors, nurses and community members who provide medical, dental and behavioral health services.
"We choose to host programs that make a difference and that open hearts and contribute to quality of life for all of us," he says. "If we can shed a little light and warmth in the process, then it's worth it."
