  • Britt Festivals will move this weekend's 2013 Classical Festival opening indoors to keep performers and attendees out of the thick layer of smoke that has blanketed the area from nearby wildfires.
Britt officials said the concerts will be at the South Medford High School gymnasium, 1551 Cunningham Ave., instead of their typical outdoor setting in Jacksonville.
The concerts will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, and Saturday, Aug. 3. The performances will feature the previously announced artists Mei-Ann Chen — Britt music director finalist — and pianist Jon Kimura Parker on Friday and pianist Ian Parker on Saturday.
Concert patrons who have already purchased tickets can use their tickets at the new site. Britt officials said they will email ticket holders with more details. Additional tickets also will be available at the door. For more information, call the Britt box office at 541-773-6077, or visit it at 216 W. Main St., Medford. The box office is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Officials said they were still working out details regarding food and drinks at the gym.
Festival staff said they will continue to monitor air quality and notify patrons about future concert locations as the dates get closer.
A full program of the Classical Festival concerts is available online at www.brittfest.org.
