  • Beverly Daniels, of Ashland, Ore. passed away in her home Friday, July 19, 2013 surrounded by love. She was born November 20, 1923, to Phillip and Esther Simon in Chicago, Ill. After the war, she worked at a department store where she met her co-worker Daniel Daniels, the store accountant. They married in 1947 and had two children, Harvey and Carolyn. She was a stay-at-home mom while Danny built his CPA practice. She cherished her family.
When the kids got older, she returned to work; first as a manufacturer's rep. in a showroom at the Merchandise Mart and later, joined her brother, Howard, in the jewelry business on Madison Ave. During this time, she discovered that she had acting and singing talent and went on to star in many theatrical productions, mostly the great musicals of the time. Her favorite role was Ado Annie in Oklahoma. Their lives were filled with music, books, friends, family, and travel to explore the beautiful sights and best restaurants in the world.
As their Chicago grandchildren grew, they decided to move to Oregon upon retiring in 2000 to bless their Ashland family with their daily presence. They said they traded the high-rises for the mountains, and Beverly was constantly amazed at the beauty surrounding their new home. She especially loved Pilot Rock, the view of Grizzly Peak from her window, and the dog-park.
Danny passed away in 2003, but Beverly continued her ability to live each day with joy, making new friends (canine and human), and being an amazing example of how to love and connect with people.
She is survived by son, Harvey, his wife, Kathy, grandchildren, Steven (Diep) and Kelly, and great-grandchildren, Audrey and Grant Daniels, of Chicago, Ill.; daughter, Carolyn Shaw, of Ashland, grandson, Elias Shaw, of Portland, Ore.; and her dog, Dolly. Countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends will miss her open, loving, generous, and wise spirit.
If you listen, you can hear her leading the angels in singing I Caint Say No.
