Bluesman Hank Shreve, who hails from Jasper (that's southeast of Springfield), and his namesake band, featuring his dad, bassist Bill Shreve, as well as guitarist Stan Welsh and drummer GT Albright, will perform at 9 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Howiee's, 16 N. Front St., Medford. There is no cover charge.
Earlier this year, the band recorded its debut album, "I've Had It," a collection of blues-based originals by Shreve and his dad and two others, "Lollipop Mama" by Roy Brown and "Mercury Blues" by K.C. Douglas and Robert Geddins. Although blues heavy, the album also has elements of funk, soul and rock 'n' roll, Shreve says.
In 2012, the band won a Muddy Award for Best New Act, and before that, Shreve won the 2006 Northwest Harmonica Championship and a Muddy Award for Best Harmonica Player in 2009.
This Fourth of July, the band will play the Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland.
