Pilots let lead slip away

Ashland remains winless after ninth-inning letdown
 Posted: 2:00 AM June 26, 2013

The Grants Pass Miners rallied from a three-run deficit in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Ashland Pilots 8-7 in a back-and-forth Area 4 tilt Monday at Grants Pass.

Ashland, which fell to 0-5, scored one run in the top of the seventh to send the game into extra innings, then took advantage of a throwing error and bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to go up 7-4 in the top of the ninth. Nick Sanderson, Tommy Hulick and Kyle Milgrim delivered back-to-back-to-back singles to start the ninth-inning rally.

In the bottom of the inning, the Miners tied the game on a two-run single by Jarid Norberg and won the game on a successful squeeze bunt with one out.

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was rained out.
