Rodney (Ron) Dickey, born June 30, 1944 died peacefully in his sleep June 16, 2013 at the age of 68 after a long struggle with prostate cancer.
Ron was born in Minnesota and grew up in Iowa until his family moved to California when he was 15. He graduated from Fresno State University with a degree in business and served two years in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant E5 stationed in Korea. He married the love of his life, Kathy, in 1969 and the couple remained inseparable for 43 years until his death.
Ron and Kathy bought the Damburger restaurant in Redding in 1979. Ron ran it lovingly until 2005 when he retired to move to Ashland, Ore. and left the business in the capable hands of his daughter, Julie and manager, Marla.
Ron was a lover of the outdoors, a devoted husband, dad and grandpa. He is most remembered for his ever-present smile, his bright spirit and his caring, nurturing attitude toward others. He will be dearly missed.
Ron is survived by his wife; two daughters, Juliet and Nell; son-in-law Matt; five grandchildren, Noah, Tariq, Zaynab, Ali, and Maggie; as well as his brothers, Bob and Dave. His parents, Irene and Earl Dickey, preceded him in death.
A celebratory memorial is planned for June 30, 2013 in Lithia Park in Ashland at 10:00 a.m. in the lawn area below the upper duck pond.
