 Posted: 12:57 PM May 02, 2013

Update, 1:25 p.m.: Crews are mopping up the fire, which burned a little over 4 acres, according to witnesses.
The fire started after a burn pile, which had been smoldering for a week, flared up, said Eric Berg, who owns the property. He said another resident on Butler Lane had been burning debris on his property.
The fire burned about 4 acres of Berg's property and about a quarter-acre of an adjacent property.

A two-alarm grass fire is burning fields and sending up smoke between East Butler Lane and East Valley View Road near the northAshland exit. Fire crews appear to have it surrounded, according to a witness on scene. Jackson County Fire District No. 5, Ashland Fire & Rescue and Oregon Department of Forestry crews are responding. More will be posted when information is made available.
