Last weekend, duo Allison Scull and Victor Martin competed against five other finalists — all talented local acts — in South Stage Cellars' and Britt Festivals' Rising Stars music competition. Although they didn't take home the grand prize, they did put on one of their best performances to date and placed in the top three.
This weekend, the duo, accompanied by keyboardist Stefan Schittko, will play at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at The Playwright Public House, 458 A Street, Ashland. Admission is free.
Together, the duo, based in Dunsmuir, Calif., makes music that fuses jazz, folk, blues, funk and soul.
Scull says their show at the Playwright will start out with laid-back, groovy songs, including originals "Esperanza" and "La Seine," before moving in to more upbeat songs such as "Weeping Willow," "Ignited" and some Bob Marley medleys.
