  • Petunia describes his take on Americana as "Tom Waits meets Elvis at Woody Guthrie's hobo junction." Action, adventure, romance and mystery are all present in the music, which is a blend of original and classic ragtime, rockabilly, honky-tonk and cowboy blues.
Petunia, a guitarist and yodeler, and his Vipers — lap steel guitarist Jimmy Roy, electric guitarist Stephen Nikleva, drummer Marc L'Esperance and bassist Patrick Metzger — are bound for Los Angeles on their 10th West Coast tour since 2009. Along the way, they'll play at 9 p.m. Friday, April 19, at Alex's Plaza Restaurant, 35 N. Main St., Ashland.
Earlier this year, the band, based in Vancouver, B.C., ventured beyond North America for a series of concerts in the U.K. and Ireland and recorded several live sessions at the Riverwood Inn, a 1930s roadhouse in Phillipsville, Calif. The live album, as well as a studio album by Petunia, are scheduled for release this fall.
The cover to the band's show at Alex's is $5. Call 541-482-8818 or see www.petuniaandthevipers.com or www.petuniamusic.com.
