  • People attending the Rogue Valley Wine and Food Festival will taste pinot noir, chardonnay and other wines made from local grapes.
    The festival is from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, April 19, and from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Medford Armory, 1701 S. Pacific Highway.
    "The festival is about local vendors having the opportunity to bond with those around us," says Eliana Wines owner Brian Jordaan.
    He will serve a 2009 and 2010 Bordeaux ($30), a blend of merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon grapes grown in Ashland. The 2009 vintage won a silver medal at the 2013 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
    Ledger David Cellars owners David Traul and Lena Varner of Talent will release their label's first vintage viognier at the event. The $22 white wine received a silver medal this year at the San Francisco competition.
    The couple also will pour a 2011 Primoris ($20), the only chenin blanc in the Rogue Valley, and two reds: 2010 Sangiovese ($22) and 2010 Orion's Nebula Red Blend ($30), made from cabernet franc, malbec, petit verdot and syrah grapes.
    Other local producers at the festival will be Kriselle Cellars of White City, Serra Vineyards of Grants Pass and Valley View Winery of Jacksonville. Northern Oregon producers attending will be Eola Hills Wine Cellars of Rickreall and Tesoaria Winery of Roseburg.
    Entry tickets cost $12 for adults and $6 for kids, and can be purchased in advance (www.roguevalleywinefest.com) or at the door.
    The second annual event will benefit Sacred Heart Catholic School in Medford and scholarships to the Southern Oregon Wine Institute, based at Umpqua Community College.
    "The festival represents the growth and variety that the local wine and food industry is experiencing," says Varner, "and we are thrilled to be a part of it."
