Velma Beatrice Nichols, 82, passed way April 4, 2013. "Peggy," as she was known to family and friends all her life, was born June 17, 1930 in Bakersfield, Calif., the only child of Milo and Velma (Brite) Erwin.
In 1948 she graduated from high school in Kingsburg, Calif. She received a bachelor of arts degree from UCLA, where she was a member of Pi Bets Phi Sorority. She was an elementary school teacher for two years before marrying Richard Nichols in Fresno, Calif. in 1955. Together they had three children: Jennifer (1956), Jeffrey (1959), and David (1969). She and Richard made their home in Ashland beginning in 1989.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Richard; her son, Jeffrey Nichols and granddaughters Lauren, Haley, and Kayla Nichols, all of Clovis, Calif.; and by granddaughter, Amara Telleen, of Washington, D.C.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer, and son, David.
