SALEM, Ore. — The recently fired head of Oregon prison industries filed a $1.5 million lawsuit Tuesday against the Department of Corrections.
Robert Killgore is suing the department in Marion County Circuit Court alleging wrongful discharge, discrimination and retaliation for whistle blowing.
A Corrections spokeswoman, Liz Craig, told The Statesman Journal Director Colette Peters would not comment on the lawsuit.
Peters fired Killgore on March 13, five weeks after the Department of Justice completed an investigation initiated by complaints from Killgore. The investigation found no criminal activity but did express concern about the relationship between the agency and Oregon Corrections Enterprises. It's a semi-independent agency that employs inmates in prison jobs.
Peters said then that the firing had nothing to do with the investigation and allegations of retaliation were unfounded.
