Ashland hoteliers Doug and Becky Neuman and a local partner have purchased the former Windmill Inn on the south side of Ashland.
The property at 2525 Ashland St. includes about 160 guest rooms and 15,000 square feet of banquet space that can accommodate up to 700 people, a pool, two tennis courts and a restaurant. However, those operations closed in late 2007. Only a 70-suite hotel there known as Village Suites at Ashland Hills has remained in operation.
The Neumans also own Ashland Springs Hotel, Larks Restaurant, Waterstone Spa, all in downtown Ashland, and the spa-like Lithia Springs Resort on the north side of town.
In a news release announcing the purchase, the Neumans said they plan to restore the Ashland Street property to create "a fresh throwback to the late 1970s" with space for conventions and events.
The new Ashland Hills is scheduled to reopen in 2014. In today's statement, the Neumans said it could provide more than 100 new jobs and a potential of attracting thousands of new visitors to Southern Oregon.
Terms of the purchase haven't been disclosed.
