Once a Portland favorite, Taarka returns to Oregon from its new home in Lyons, Colo., to promote its January release, "Adventures in Vagabondia."

The acoustic string band — David Tiller on mandolin, Enion Pelta-Tiller on violin, Troy Robey on upright bass and Greg Ruby on guitar — plays at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at Caldera Tap House, 31 Water St., Medford.

The album is Taarka's sixth and features its signature fusion of gypsy jazz and bluegrass, which the San Francisco Weekly calls "a collision of Django Reinhardt and David Grisman." However, "Adventures in Vagabondia" sets itself apart in that it is less instrumental and more "singer-songwriterish."

The band was formed more than a decade ago when husband and wife, David and Enion, transformed their New York busking act into a full-fledged touring band.
