PHOENIX, Ariz. — Jamie Flynn and Eric Carlson had three hits apiece to help Ashland overcome an early 5-3 deficit and beat Middleton, Idaho 13-7 Tuesday on the first day of the Greenway Festival.
Flynn was 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBIs and his first home run of the season, and Carlson was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to spearhead the Grizzlies' 15-hit attack in the nonconference game. Also for Ashland (2-5), Ryan Bottimore was 2-for-5 with two doubles and scored three runs and Ian Alpenia was 2-for-3.
Ashland reliever Carter Glick picked up the win after taking the mound with two outs in the fourth inning and holding Middleton to two runs, one earned, on one hit over the next 2 1/3 innings.
Middleton scored four runs on two hits and an error in the bottom of the fourth to seize a two-run lead, but Ashland rebounded nicely in the fifth. Steen Fredrickson delivered a two-run double down the left-field line and Vince Cammarota drove in two more with a triple to left as Ashland scored eight runs on seven hits to take a 11-5 lead.
Ashland starting pitcher Jack Carroll surrendered five runs, four earned on three hits in 3 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked four in an 80-pitch outing that yielded no decision.
Middleton starter Christian Hill was touched up for eight runs, seven earned, on seven hits. He struck out six and walked four before Tanner Hollingsworth took over in the fifth.
Ashland faces Coronado, Colo., today before playing another Greenway Festival game Thursday against Widefield, Colo.

At Bend, senior pitcher Kylie Howson tossed a complete game and helped her own cause by going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs as Ashland snapped a six-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over Philomath in the Grizzlies' final game of the Central Oregon Spring Break Tournament.
Ashland (2-7) lost to Ridgeview 6-4 earlier in the day.
Against Philomath, Howson laced an RBI double in the first inning and a two-run single in the fifth to give Ashland a 5-1 cushion. Howson made it stand in the circle, holding the Warriors (2-5) to one earned run on eight hits while striking out two.
In the earlier game, the Grizzlies fought back from a 5-0 deficit through three to get within 5-4 but couldn't finish the rally. Teresa Lehman was 4-for-4 with a double and two runs and Howson was 2-for-3.
