EUGENE, Ore. — The FBI has identified a man it calls the "Tall Man" robber, who has hit six banks in the Eugene-Springfield area in five weeks.
The agency said in a court document it's looking for 26-year-old Chet Evans. He's described as 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds. He previously had addresses in Ashland and Medford but recently has been living in a Eugene hotel, a federal affidavit says.
Tellers say he's nervous and shaking during the stickups.
The affidavit said a parole officer reported Monday that Evans resembled published pictures of the robber.
The Register-Guard reported that officers at a Eugene hotel questioned a woman who identified herself as Evans' girlfriend. They said they found clothing matching that of the robber and other evidence including two robbery notes and a global positioning system device with the locations of three of the robbed banks mapped.
A reward of up to $2,000 was offered for information about Evans or the robberies.
The most recent robbery was Monday. Four of the banks were in grocery or department stores.
Evans has a record of involvement in mostly minor crimes in Jackson and Coos counties. Court records indicate that he has outstanding warrants in Jackson County for possession of heroin and second-degree theft.
