The Ashland Kiwanis Club has recognized Ashland High School senior Nora Godfrey as its AHS Student of the Month for March.
Godfrey participated in cheerleading during her freshman year, track as a sophomore, different types of classes throughout the years, and dance for the past six. Dance has always been a passion, especially during high school, she said. Godfrey is taking ballet, contemporary, and hip-hop, at DanceWorks, where she is a member of its performance group that dances at local events such as the OSF Green Show and the MLK celebration.
Godfrey also helps to choreograph dances for several school events, such as the Homecoming assembly Teacher Dance, Winter Fine Arts Festival, and Mr. Grizz, all of which play a part in her senior project. Godfrey has applied to 11 colleges. She plans to go to a four-year university, major in psychology and continue her dance interests.
Senior students from Ashland High School are honored each month during the school year. Each receives an award certificate and $50 in cash. In May, two of the nine monthly winners for the current school year will be further honored with a $1,000 Tommy Laird Kiwanis College scholarship.
