 Posted: 4:10 PM March 13, 2013

Pat O'Scannell and friends — Morgan O'Shaughnessey on fiddle, Sue Carney on bodhran and Jim Finnegan on vocals — will present a fireside-style, acoustic Irish session from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at Alex's Plaza Restaurant and Bar, 35 N. Main St., Ashland.

This St. Patrick's Day show is in addition to O'Scannell's regular gigs at Paddy Brannan's Irish Pub and The Playwright Public House.

O'Scannell on guitar, whistles and vocals will play traditional Irish tunes with guitarist Daniel Carr and either Kevin Carr or 15-year-old "Little" Sean on fiddle from 7 to 9 p.m. every Thursday throughout March at The Playwright, 258 A St., Ashland. O'Scannell presents "An Cailin Gaelach" ("The Irish Girl"), a program of Irish songs and upbeat dance reels sung in Gaelic, from 6 to 8 p.m. Sundays at Paddy Brannan's, 23 S. Second St., Ashland.

"I'm 100-percent Irish," O'Scannell brags. "My grandfather is from County Kerry (in Ireland) ... and my mother's side of the family are from counties Galway and Clare."
